Description: Do you love wildlife, environmental conservation, and using critical thinking to solve complex problems? Are you skilled in data analysis and communicating results? Are you flexible, adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment?
If you answered yes to the above, the Ventura Fish and Wildlife Office is looking for you to be our next Kendra Chan Conservation Fellow! The Kendra Chan Conservation Fellowship was created in honor of the late USFWS biologist Kendra Chan who inspired many with her passion, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the natural world. This fellowship carries on her conservation legacy for future generations of scientists.
This year, we're seeking a candidate local to the Santa Cruz area who is able to analyze historic and current data regarding Ohlone tiger beetle (OTB) habitat, a federally endangered insect that is endemic to Santa Cruz County.
Key Responsibilities: -Analyze historical and current information regarding OTB oviposition site selection. -Draw conclusions on several OTB habitat components to determine preferred oviposition (egg-laying) site selection. -Provide a clearly written and substantive report of findings. -Coordinate with stakeholders such as staff from UCSC, Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, and the Center for Natural Lands Management to ensure proper training, access to project sites, and data transfer.
Eligibility Requirements -Open for consideration to both undergraduate and graduate students who will not complete their degree requirements before September. -Must be able to work outdoors in high temps. and hike through natural habitats. -Knowledgeable in technical writing, data collection, and data analysis. -Must have interest in species conservation.
